About the Project

In the early 2010s we, the members of Out Like Pluto, lived in Seattle, met 2-3 times a week for rehearsal, and applied our DIY ethos (and relative lack of experience) to create music that we thought was, above all-else, genuine, and light-hearted. It was music that, for us and our audience, created a space to escape from the obligations and stressors of daily life in an increasingly unhinged, modern world. A complementing and rotational lineup of friends and musicians from many walks of life helped us bring together several local communities for live shows, and good times. This was all true, of course, until life happened and it all ended.
Since then, the members of Out Like Pluto have grown up and moved out: We've experienced marriages, divorces, children, dogs, higher-stakes jobs, international moves, global pandemics, and profound personal transformations. But now, well, we're back! And we're proud to present our (almost) original lineup of Kari Tarr, Andy Tyra, Jeremy Hynoski, and Emily Pesce, reuniting mostly virtually (but sometimes in person) to revisit the past and our influences in a new light.
"Takes Covers" is both a pun, referencing our 2011 LP, "Take Cover", and a project of indefinite length where we will use the power of the internet to revisit, with hindsight, some of our favourite songs from our time together in Seattle, and present our versions of the music that inspired the originals. Think of this as our catharsis from a world that has shown no sign of becoming less unhinged, and one that we think will be infinitely better if shared. Please enjoy, and watch the video for even more context.
